MADI DIAZ CONFIRMS SPRING TOUR WITH RACHEL PLATTEN
“NOTHING AT ALL” FEATURED IN HOPE SPRINGS TRAILER
PLASTIC MOON DEBUTS AT #20 ON BILLBOARD’S HEATSEEKERS CHART, #15 ON BILLBOARD’S NEXT BIG SOUND CHART
In support of her acclaimed new full-length album, Plastic Moon, Madi Diaz will embark on a nationwide tour this month with Rachel Platten. See below for complete details. Plastic Moon debuted at #20 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart earlier this year, while Diaz reached #15 Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart (Small Horse Records via Thirty Tigers). Additionally, the music continues to receive widespread critical praise—Marie Claire proclaims, “Madi Diaz is about to make it big,” while Rolling Stone calls the album’s first single, “Let’s Go,” “…an indie folk gem…” Moreover, Diaz’s song, “Nothing At All,” is currently featured in the official trailer for the major motion picture, Hope Springs (starring Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones and Steve Carell).
In February, the music video for “Gimme A Kiss,” the second single from Plastic Moon, premiered on Vevo. Of the video’s concept, Diaz explains, “I didn't want to do another singer-songwriter/pop video. I wanted to do the exact opposite. And my brother, Max, is in a speed metal band. So we teamed up with director, Erich Weiss, who had directed a film about the history of tattoos and asked him to help us make a speed metal video.” Weiss goes on to say, “I just got sick of seeing the saccharine, ‘lonely-girl-strumming-guitar-in-sun-rays’ type video that seem standard for singer-songwriters. So we said, screw it, let’s shoot the opposite—let’s shoot a Black Metal video.”
Additionally, the music video for “Let’s Go,” debuted on IFC and was featured as iTunes Music Video of the Week. Directed by Matt Amato (Bon Iver, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros), the video was filmed in L.A. during the spring of 2011 and utilizes footage shot using Japanese-made Harinezumi cameras, which created a dreamy, 8mm effect. Of the video, Teen Vogue heralds, “With incredible depth of field and the use of multiple camera angles and split screens, we couldn’t take our eyes off ‘Let’s Go.’ Elements of nature and city work together to create the perfect microcosm of energy. You could say we’re more than a little excited for Madi’s 2012 album to drop. ‘Let’s Go’ is beautifully visceral, transporting you to another world.” Previously, Diaz received praise for her 2009 EP 10 Gun Salute and her 2007 independently released full-length Skin and Bone— WXPN exclaims “wonderful,” while the Boston Globe says of the music, “…sparkling… smacked of indie-pop sensation Feist.”
Recorded in Los Angeles and Charlottesville, VA with world-renowned producer John Alagia (John Mayer, The Dave Matthews Band), the EP and forthcoming full-length feature Diaz alongside her long-time collaborator, Kyle Ryan. Of the recording process, Diaz comments, “Working with John was great. He helped us really focus on material Kyle and I had been working with for such a long time. He was like a ship captain looking over our shoulders making sure we kept our course steady and headed in the right direction.” A highlight on both the EP and full-length is stand-out track, “Let’s Go,” of which Seventeen says, “Songs like…‘Let’s Go’ have crazy catchy hooks that rival the pop-laden records that pervade today’s charts.”
Already gaining notice through television placement, Diaz’s songs have been featured on ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars” and Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva” and “Army Wives.” Additionally, Diaz has toured alongside The Civil Wars and Landon Pigg as well as part of the Ten Out of Tenn collective. Moreover, Diaz recently collaborated with acclaimed musician Joseph Arthur, providing backing vocals on four tracks from his new album, The Graduation Ceremony.
