Look Out Now, the sophomore album from The Gaddabouts, is out now on racecarLOTTA Records. Featuring renowned songwriter and musician Edie Brickell alongside Steve Gadd, Pino Palladino and Andy Fairweather-Low, The Gaddabouts have been declared an, “…all-star collaborative…” by Time Out New York. Additionally, of the new release, the Associated Press heralds, “Edie Brickell makes it all seem so simple…Brickell makes the listener feel so at ease listening to the double disc that it’s like slipping into a pair of comfy slippers, kicking back in a recliner and just letting the stresses of life slip away.”
In conjunction with the release, exclusive bonus content is now available at TheGaddabouts.com and EdieBrickell.com. Both re-launched sites now feature two bonus tracks from Look Out Now, a never-before-released bonus track from 2001, behind-the-scenes rehearsal video clips from the band’s 2011 Zankel Hall concert and in-studio footage from the Look Out Now sessions. The sites also feature new photos and a streaming player with a selection of six new songs.
The 17-song, double disc album was recorded in New York City in April and July of 2011. Highlights include the opening track, “Meat On Your Bones,” which was composed and recorded spontaneously. In Edie’s own words, “The song was a true improvisation, spur of the moment. Steve chose to start the record with this improv because it feels great and sets the tone for a playful band dynamic heard throughout the album.” Of the recording experience Edie goes on to say, “It’s a tribute and a nod to the days when bands played so well they were recorded live in the studio together—a live performance comes through on every track. This double disc represents 3 weeks together in 2011.” In addition to the quartet, the album features Ronnie Cuber (sax, vocals), Larry Goldings (keys, accordian), Pedro Martinez (percussion), Axel Tosca (piano) and Andrea Zahn (violin).
Initially conceived of in 2000, The Gaddabouts began when longtime admirers Gadd (known for his work with Kate Bush, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, etc.) and Brickell recorded demos together and decided to form a band. Brickell loved the laid-back vibe Gadd created in the studio and asked him to also produce the record. In addition to the duo, Gadd asked his friends, renowned guitarist Andy Fairweather-Low (Roger Waters, Eric Claption, etc.) and legendary bassist Pino Palladino (The Who, John Mayer, etc.), to join the group. Their union was joyful and effortless and half of the songs were recorded during the first session. The quartet made their live debut at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall as part of the WFUV concert series in April 2011.
