This March, Dan Wilson will join Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, Cary Brothers and Joshua Radin, among others, for a handful of dates on the fourth annual Hotel Café Tour. Following the tour, Wilson will hit the road with Kathleen Edwards. . Dan Wilson’s solo debut Free Life, released October 22 on American Recordings, continues to receive critical acclaim. Described by USA Today as a “sonic delight,” Free Life has topped several year-end lists including the New York Daily News, which praised the “crushingly pure melodies,” and the Boston Globe, which commended the “appealing melodies, gentle vocalizing, and inventive songwriting.” The New York Times calls it “full of romance.” Produced by Wilson and executive produced by label head Rick Rubin, Free Life features contributions from Sheryl Crow, Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek) and Eric Fawcett (N.E.R.D.), among others. Wilson wrote Free Life in a 100-year old house inspired by sheet music purchased at antique stores and a Neil Young biography that emphasized live recording. The album began as a self-produced project in the Twin Cities and was finished in Los Angeles by Wilson and Rubin. Rubin enthusiastically agreed to help complete the record, saying of Wilson, “Dan’s music touches my soul. He is/has the perfect combination of inspiration and songcraft. He is a timeless artist whose music will feel as good in 50 years as it does today.” Former member of cult band Trip Shakespeare and the critically acclaimed group Semisonic, who rose to fame in the late nineties with their hit single “Closing Time,” Wilson has been working as a solo artist recently and collaborating with a collective of notable musicians from his home city of Minneapolis. Wilson earned a Song of the Year Grammy in February 2007 for his co-writing work on the Dixie Chick’s “Not Ready To Make Nice” from the album Taking the Long Way. He also contributed writing to six songs on the album, which won the Dixie Chicks a total of five Grammy Awards including Album Of The Year and Country Album Of The Year. Wilson recently produced Mike Doughty’s forthcoming album Golden Delicious, whose single is rapidly moving up AAA radio charts as well as getting significant airplay at alternative radio outlets. Wilson has also collaborated with such acclaimed artists as Rachael Yamagata, Jewel, Jason Mraz and others.
