MARK KNOPFLER CONFIRMS NORTH AMERICAN TOUR IN SUPPORT OF KILL TO GET CRIMSON

"Knopfler serves up yet another unpretentious showcase for his unmistakable gifts as a musician, tunesmith and storyteller." —USA Today

In support of his acclaimed 2007 release, Kill To Get Crimson (Warner Bros. Records), Mark Knopler will return to North America this summer. The U.S. and Canadian tour will commence June 24 with a performance at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre and features dates in L.A., Vancouver, Chicago, Nashville, Toronto, Boston, New York and Philadelphia, among others. As an added bonus, a copy of the new CD will be included with each pair of tickets purchased online.

Heralded by critics, Rolling Stone calls Kill To Get Crimson ‘…a gem’ and describes the music as ‘…a testament to the rare talent that enables a master to say something simply and beautifully, and leave it exactly at that.’ The album was made with a select group of musicians including long-time collaborators keyboard player, Guy Fletcher and engineer/co-producer Chuck Ainlay. This is Knopfler’s fifth solo, non-soundtrack release, following 2004’s Shangri-La, and arrives on the heels of Knopfler’s delightful collaboration with Emmylou Harris, All The Roadrunning. That record was GRAMMY® nominated and also led to a series of sell out dates across the world.

Recorded in his own purpose-built studio, British Grove in West London, Kill To Get Crimson contains selected traditional instrumentation as well as the more usual guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. Featured players include accordionist Ian Lowthian, with whom Knopfler played on the soundtrack to the 2002 movie A Shot At Glory, and fiddle player John McCusker, perhaps best known for his work with Kate Rusby.

A multiple GRAMMY® award winner as the lead singer/songwriter for Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler combined his wry lyrics with his guitar prowess to create such major hits as Money For Nothing, Sultans Of Swing, Romeo and Juliet and Walk of Life. He has produced records for Bob Dylan and Randy Newman as well as scoring several films including Local Hero and Princess Bride.
