LAURA VEIRS KICKS OFF 19-CITY SOLO TOUR MAY 1 IN VANCOUVER
“Vivid lyrical images conjured by tasteful flourishes of harmonies,
backward guitars, and bells.”–USA Today
“On Saltbreakers, her visions of nightingales and pink dawns are invigorated
by spiky, snaky melodies and her fondness for kicking out the jams—think Emily Dickinson on electric guitar.”–Elle

Beginning May 1, Nonesuch recording artist Laura Veirs will headline nineteen spring tour dates with Liam Finn slated to open. The tour includes stops in New York, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles with Veirs performing solo on all dates. On the upcoming tour, Veirs will feature songs from her critically acclaimed 2007 album Saltbreakers, which Rolling Stone calls “a charming folk-pop record full of delicate string arrangements, sprightly choral arrangements and lyrics about the sea,” and the Chicago Tribune says is her “sweetest, warmest set yet.” On the album, Veirs is accompanied by her longtime studio and touring band, The Saltbreakers. The group includes Karl Blau on bass, Steve Moore on piano, and longtime Veirs collaborator and producer (The Decemberists’ The Crane Wife) Tucker Martine on drums.Unlike her previous Nonesuch albums, Carbon Glacier and Year of Meteors, Saltbreakers took Veirs beyond her interest in the natural world, digging deeperinto the turbulence of her own life and the larger world that affects her. She says, “It’s not sappy or sentimentally confessional, but it does have some vulnerability that I don’t think you see on some of my other records.” Since the record’s release, Veirs has also released a digital-only single via iTunes (“Shape the Swarm”) featuring back up vocals by the Cedar Hill Choir and recorded in part in June Carter and Johnny Cash’s former cabin in Nashville.
