CRITICS APPLAUD TIFT MERRITT’S ANOTHER COUNTRY |

The nation’s most prominent press outlets have come together to praise Tift Merritt’s Another Country. The follow-up to 2004’s Grammy-nominated Tambourine, Another Country is Merritt’s third full-length release and her first for Concord Music Group’s Fantasy Records. Touring in support of the release earlier this spring, Merritt dazzled critics with her live performances with the Los Angeles Times declaring her “soulful and driven” and San Francisco Weekly calling her “inspiring.” This summer she will embark on tour once again beginning June In June, Merritt will perform on “The Late Show with David Letterman” twice. She will join Emmylou Harris on June 12 for a special performance that will be followed by another performance with her band on June 25. Emmylou Harris says, “I first heard Tift Merritt some years ago during a writer’s night at a small club. She stood out like a diamond in a coal patch and everyone there knew she carried a promise of great things to come. She has more than fulfilled that promise, especially here on her lovely new album Another Country.” 2008 has proven to be a big year for Merritt. In addition to her album release, she recently performed on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and at the annual SXSW festival in Austin where, according to the Wall Street Journal, she charmed audiences with her “sweet voice, which floated into the night sky.” Her album, Another Country, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, and the single “Broken” topped the Americana radio chart and made it to #4 on the non-commercial radio chart #28 on the commercial AAA chart. She has also found success overseas where "Broken" is played regularly on BBC Radio 2, BBC London and BBC Northern Ireland, and Another Country received a 4-star review in Mojo magazine. Furthermore, Merritt is hosting her very own monthly public radio program on Marfa, Texas Public Radio, which debuted on January 27. A program of artist-to-artist radio interviews entitled “The Spark” has featured guests such as novelist Nick Hornby, the band Nickel Creek, poet C.K.
