Of the song, Carpenter shares,
“I grew up in a conservative Christian home where certain types of movies, books, and music were off-limits. My family didn’t know about the stash of gothic horror novels hidden in my bedroom, and they certainly weren’t aware of my secret boyfriend. He was the drummer in a local heavy metal band and an occasional weed dealer. I didn’t know anything about sex or love, but I did know a lot about vampires. Anne Rice’s Lestat and Louis were cool, confident, and indestructible. Edward and Bella were unconditionally and irrevocably in love. Some legends say that vampires don’t have reflections, and I didn’t want to see myself in the mirror. I wanted someone cold and immortal to fly up to my window and carry me away. Every night when I tucked myself into bed, novels about vampires came to my rescue and made me feel like I could live forever. This one is for all the kids who used books as an escape. For the pathetic mall goths who fell in love with Lestat, or Bella and Edward. This is a song for the inner child screaming inside all of us.”
Written and produced by Carpenter, Peter Shurkin and Alden Witt, “Novels About Vampires” follows Carpenter’s 2022 release, “Exorcist,” both of which will be featured on their forthcoming new album, set for release later this year. The new songs feature Carpenter’s most raw and honest writing to date and mark a new creative chapter for the Nashville-based artist, who is leaving their country roots for the alternative/pop space where they feel most authentically themself. Additional album details to come.
In celebration of the music, Carpenter will join Rainbow Kitten Surprise for two shows later this spring at Orlando’s Hard Rock Live on May 17 and St. Petersburg’s Jannus Live on May 18. Ticket details can be found at www.candicarpenter.com/tour.
