RISING DUO WASIA PROJECT UNVEILS NEW SONG “WHALE CALL” TODAY

FEATURED IN NETFLIX’S HEARTSTOPPER FOREVER, OUT NOW ANTICIPATED DEBUT ALBUM NOCTURNE OUT SEPTEMBER 18 July 17, 2026—Rising duo Wasia Project, siblings Will Gao and Olivia Hardy, share their new song, “Whale Call,” today—listen HERE. The song premieres in Netflix’s Heartstopper Forever, which is out today and stars Gao.

Of the new track, the duo shares, “[‘Whale Call’ is] a lament exploring the loneliness of watching someone you care about seem closer to someone else, and trying to reach out or reconnect with them, but simultaneously finding pain in the connection itself. It’s a reflection of sitting in the midst of the two, and the quiet spiral of distance from yourself that both feelings can evoke.”

“Whale Call” is the third release from the project, following “Bleeding Gold” and “2515,” the latter of which i-D described as “moving toward something darker and a little more confrontational.” Both tracks also received their first play as Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is the latest from Wasia Project’s anticipated debut album, Nocturne, out September 18 via AWAL Recordings—pre-save HERE. Produced by longtime collaborator St. Francis Hotel (Adele, Little Simz, Arcade Fire), Nocturne is Wasia Project’s first full-length album and marks a major step forward in the duo’s creative evolution. Across the album’s 12 tracks, Gao and Hardy lean into a more cathartic and emotionally charged sound that explores youth and identity, while continuing to dissolve the boundaries between genres and craft music that feels both deeply personal and collectively resonant.

“Our debut album, Nocturne, is a collection of songs that take us on a journey through the night. A space and time where feelings and emotions play in a world of extremes,” shares the duo. “From the electric connection of a nightclub to the isolation of a sleepless night, we present a piece of work that serves as a sanctuary for those moments in our lives, hoping to bridge the borders between ourselves and each other.”

Acclaimed live performers, Wasia Project will embark on their most extensive U.K. and European headline tour to date this fall, following a run of sold-out piano shows across Southeast Asia and Australia. The new music follows the 2025 single, “Letters From The Day,” and 2024’s highly anticipated Isotope EP, which was released alongside a short film and received instant acclaim from Wonderland, EUPHORIA, Clash Music and more. The group’s U.K. headline tour for the project sold out in minutes, and the duo went on to sell out their entire U.S. tour, including two nights at both Los Angeles’ The Fonda Theatre and New York City’s Irving Plaza, along with a show at New York City’s legendary Blue Note. Plus, they have shared stages with Laufey, Tom Odell and Rachel Chinouriri.

Formed in 2019, Wasia Project draws on their Chinese-British heritage and classical music training to craft a distinctly global approach to pop, blending styles that transcend boundaries and span musical traditions. The London-based siblings first turned to music as a refuge from the pressures of growing up in a social media-saturated generation, channeling their instinctive creative bond into work that explores the complexities of youth, identity and connection.
