May 8, 2026—Mexican superstar Carín León steps into a bold new chapter of his acclaimed career with the release of MUDA, out now. His new studio album and one of the most eclectic of his catalog. MUDA is available on all streaming platforms—listen/share HERE.
On MUDA, León continues to explore the universe he has built around the mouth as a symbol—the voice, the word, the performance. True to its title, the album captures the experience of shedding skin; artistic reinvention and evolution in real time. It also marks the close of a creative chapter that has unfolded across his last three records.
The project also reflects a moment in León’s artistry defined by searching, risk-taking, and sonic exploration, driven by a deep and restless curiosity for music.
“With MUDA, we went looking for new sounds and musical horizons beyond our regional roots — to take the project to other countries and other languages. That was the goal of this album,” said León. “The album’s name is a nod to Hermosillo, for the silent H [in Spanish], and also to the concept of shedding skin. And it all ties back to the mouth — every one of my albums has been speaking to this: Colmillo de Leche, Boca Chueca, Palabra de To’s—it’s all part of the same concept. With MUDA, we close this chapter,” he added.
The cover is the most powerful expression of that concept. For the first time, León’s mouth appears unobstructed— open, frontal, defiant. The cover’s oil painting intervention was created by Alan Ortega, who also worked on the covers of Colmillo de Leche and Boca Chueca.
“The cover follows the visual aesthetic of my previous albums, which were oil paintings,” the artist reveals. “For MUDA, we created an oil painting from an actual photo of me, which gives it a washed-out effect. That intervention gave it a raw visual quality that perfectly captures what I'm presenting on this record.”
True to his innovative and boundary-pushing spirit, the four-time Latin GRAMMY® winner transcends the borders of Contemporary Mexican Music and expands his musical palette with pop, big band, ska, blues, salsa, funk, and traditional Mexican music—delivering one of his most daring and eclectic bodies of work to date on MUDA. Love is the album’s central theme, represented across 14 tracks—romantic devotion, flirtation, heartbreak, pride, revenge, and the kind of pain that drives a person to excess.
For MUDA, León worked alongside a songwriting team comprising Edgar Barrera, Spread Lof, Casta, and Daniel Rondón, with production by Edgar Barrera and Casta. He also worked with Mexican singer Adriel Favela, who oversaw the entire album’s creative direction.
“More than creative direction in the traditional sense, I would say I was an instrument of channeling and energy. The friendship I have with Carín allowed me to immerse myself in a deeply intimate space. All it took was being sensitive and vibrating on the same frequency to bring order and shape to the ideas he already had,” said Favela. “There is a very powerful play on words around the phrase: ‘Who said the H is silent?’ From there, ‘Muda de Piel’ was born — a concept that represents the closing of a cycle: leaving behind who we were to show ourselves with a new skin. The project’s aesthetic is a complete invitation to know not only Carín León as an artist but also the human being behind him. It is an invitation from the soul to enter his home, his land, his origins — to understand where he comes from and what has shaped him.”
On the visual side, he turned to legendary American photographer Mike Miller, whose work defined the aesthetic of '90s hip-hop through iconic portraits of artists including Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Cypress Hill.
MUDA features two collaborations, both of which connect León to South America and pay tribute to the tropical sounds and folk traditions of Colombia and Venezuela through artists who define each country—Latin pop/rock legend Juanes on “Carranga,” and two-time GRAMMY®-winning band Rawayana on “Bingo.”
The album also includes “Desde Que Te Tengo,” a delicate pop ballad woven with Mexican textures that tells the story of the fortune of having found true love. Its romantic verses and tender delivery resonated deeply with fans across social media, and the preview generated more than 360k TikTok creations ahead of the song’s release.
The project arrives ahead of León’s 2026 Tour Norteamérica and signals what promises to be another landmark year—one that will see him conquer a new continent: Asia. There, he will become the first Mexican artist to headline a festival in Tokyo. He will also make history as the first Latin artist to perform at the SPHERE in Las Vegas.
